Paddle Canada Certified Instruction
Our courses follow the Paddle Canada curriculum for SUP skills. We currently offer Basic SUP and Advanced Flatwater Skills. After completing Advanced Flatwater Skills, and with appropriate practice, you can pursue training in the River, Surf, and Touring skill trees. Note for Used SUP buyers: Basic SUP Skills training is available free of charge for those who purchase a used SUP from the Shop. Don't worry if you take the course first, we'll be happy to refund the course cost if you buy a board during the same paddling season. If you desire more training than Basic SUP, we can offer Basic SUP + Advanced Flatwater Skills at a 50% discount instead. Course timing is subject to instructor availability.

Basic SUP SkillsDates: Private lessons by request, group lesson dates TBA
2 hours — $95 for 1 person private lesson or $75/person for groups of 2 to 6 participants Up to 6 participants Ages 16+ (contact for younger group options) Introduces students to the sport of stand up paddleboarding. We focus on safety, launching, kneeling, standing up, basic paddle strokes, and FUN.

Basic SUP + Advanced Flatwater SkillsDates: Private lessons by request, group lesson dates TBA
4.5 hours — $145 for 1 person or $125/person for groups (2 to 6 participants) Up to 6 participants Ages 16+ (contact for younger group option) Covers and expands on the topics learned in Basic SUP Skills. Focusing on more advanced strokes, foot positioning, and paddling in adverse conditions.
A paddle of greater distance may also be included depending on the conditions, skill level of the group, and available time. |
WHAT TO BRING
We provide stand up paddleboards, paddles, life jackets, leashes and other safety equipment.
Students should bring the following:

- Paddle specific clothing (wetsuit or drysuit recommended; moisture wicking top and bottom works for warmer weather/water)
- Footwear that can get wet and not fall off (water shoes/booties, not sandals)
- Water repellent jacket shell
- Hat, sunglasses (with strap), waterproof sunblock, bug repellent
- Water bottle, lunch (for full day courses)
- Towel and dry clothes
LESSON LOCATION
The primary lesson location for 2021 will be Spring Lake. It offers pristine water and sheltered areas for instruction; just over half an hour west of Edmonton. There is a signed grass parking area on the inside of the bend along Waters Crescent. Facilities are limited at this location, so arrive dressed and ready for the water if possible. Don't worry, the lake is worth it!
Alternate Locations
Other options can be chosen based on the expected conditions. These can include Hermitage Park for Basic SUP, or Seba Beach for Advanced Flatwater Skills. If you booking a private lesson, contact us with your favorite lake in the greater Edmonton region, and we will try to accommodate it.

Hermitage Park
Hermitage Park is easily accessed from Yellowhead Trail: exit north onto Victoria Trail, turn right onto Hermitage Road, stay right upon entering the park; there will be parking near the dock.
Seba Beach
Seba Beach is nestled on the west side of Wabamun Lake. There is beach and dock access, with a sheltered cove within paddling distance. To get there from Edmonton (~50 minutes): travel west on Yellowhead Trail/Hwy 16, take Exit 306/Hwy 31 south to Seba Beach, turn left on 4 St S (before the mini golf course), turn right on 1 Ave S, the public docks will be on the left.
SUNSET POINt
Sunset Point is located just north of Alberta Beach on Lac Ste. Anne. The local park (Klinkhammer Park) provides parking, toilet facilities and convenient access to the water. To get there from Edmonton (~45 minutes): travel west on Yellowhead Trail/Hwy 16, take Exit 340/Hwy 43 north (sign to Whitecourt), turn left (west) onto Hwy 633, turn right onto Range Road 32 (sign to Alberta Beach), stay left at Museum Road, turn right at the stop sign (50 Avenue), and the park will be on the left.
